The sealing properties of this silicone membrane keep the urine canister closed from the inside, ensuring that liquid is unable to escape from the canister into your toilet and that any smells are kept away. Even if there is any splash from bumpy roads or tipping, this membrane stays put and keeps your space clean and smelling fresh. In this video, you can see how well the membrane closure is able to keep liquids in where they belong: 

If you are a full-timer using your Trelino® on a regular basis, the membrane should be replaced every 3 months in order to maintain the fit and sealing properties. For weekend warriors or part time users, this piece should be replaced every 6 months.
