Finding the Right Toilet for Your Travels

When it comes to choosing the right size and model of a portable composting toilet, it's essential to consider the specific needs of your camping trips. Between the Evos and the Origins, we offer different sizes and builds to accommodate various numbers of users, areas of use, and frequency of use. Before we look into the different options offered by Trelino®, we should examine the factors that would determine your perfect fit.

Size Matters

The height of the composting toilet plays a role in user-friendliness and accessibility. The large models make it easier to sit down and stand up, making them particularly suitable for people with limited mobility or looking for more comfort. Taller toilets also house larger containers which allow for longer emptying cycles. If space is not an issue, the tallest possible toilet is always the most comfortable option. 

Small composting toilets require more knee work (while at the same time supporting a healthier posture for bowel movements), however they can be stored in places where height and space are limited. 

The medium size is also particularly useful when you’re upgrading from a chemical toilet and left with an existing pedestal. A medium size sits comfortably on this raised base, while a large would leave most users’ feet dangling.

Capacity sets the emptying rhythm 

The capacity of the containers of your composting toilet will determine at which intervals you need to empty them. It’s the difference between daily dumps and weekly ones. What’s the frequency of use? Do you travel in packs or are you a solo camper? How often do you go? 

You can do the math - here are rough guidelines for how many uses of number one and number two fit in the containers. Keep in mind that the frequency of use for number two in particular depends heavily on how much litter you use:

Payload limit - a weighty consideration

Depending on where you will keep your composting toilet, weight limitations may apply, especially in vans, on camping trips, or on boats. If weight is an issue, the Evo series is the right choice for you. It is designed for ultra-lightweight travel and makes transport and handling much easier.
